Unsure what to do next, the family called the local authorities.
The police arrived at the house in Summerville in South Carolina, US, with Animal Control officials.
They successfully fished the animal out of the pool on Wednesday (7 Jan).

A police spokesperson said: “Today was a reminder to always expect the unexpected.
“Officers responded after a neighbour reported a wallaby hopping around their backyard.

“A brief pursuit ended with our new friend jumping into a pool, where he was safely rescued.”
The police discovered that the wallaby came from a neighbour’s property where there were two other marsupials, as reported by What’s The Jam.

They pointed out that, despite the escape, the animals are well cared for at the house.

The spokesperson said: “We later learned he belongs to a nearby property where another wallaby and a kangaroo live too.
“They are well cared for by a local veterinarian and have more space to roam than the kangaroo enclosure at the Columbia Zoo.”

One local quipped: “Wallalby darned!”
Whitney said: “Ummm, do the owners allow people to come hang out with the animals? Asking for a friend…”

John joked: “So, apparently the chances of seeing a kangaroo in Summerville are slightly more than zero. Interesting.”
