Nessie has reportedly been spotted moving against the current in the latest sightings of the legendary monster.

A tourist watched a creature moving in and out of the water “like a very large eel”, while another captured a photo of a dark mound protruding from the world-famous loch.

The encounters were recorded by tourists from Malta and Spain on 5 and 6 August.

The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register has now added both reports to its running total for 2026, which stands at 15.

Norbert Kawka made the first sighting near Fort Augustus at around 8.50pm on 5 August.

The encounter lasted around 15 minutes, as reported by What’s The Jam.

A spokesperson for the Official Sightings Register said: “He saw a creature move against the current, in and out of the water like a very large eel.

“The weather was foggy with a hint of rain, there was no wind and water conditions were calm.

“He estimated that the size was at least seven metres in length.

“There was no boat activity [and] it left a lot of disturbance on the water surface.”

The following day, Jocelyn Boyce, who was visiting from Barcelona, spotted a “dark, almost black, mound-like shape” while at Urquhart Castle.

She said: “I was at a viewpoint at Urquhart Castle overlooking Loch Ness with my family when we noticed a dark, almost black, mound-like shape protruding above the surface of the water.

“I initially observed the object with my naked eye.

“I estimate that it was approximately half a mile away from our position.
“The water appeared calm and general visibility was good.

“I used the phone’s zoom.

“The dark mound-like shape is visible above the surface of the water.

“Moments later, the object was no longer visible above the water.”

In May, a stunned boat skipper was certain he’d found Nessie after seeing a plesiosaur on his sonar.

Shaun Sloggie said it was the most convincing sighting he’d ever seen.

Sonar boffins were also left intrigued.

Shaun said: “I have worked on Loch Ness for 11 years and this is the craziest contact I’ve ever seen.

“It was at a depth of about 300 feet and a good return.

“We have two sonar transducers pinging sound down at 200 kilohertz.

“So that’s 200,000 sound waves per second.

“It’s a powerful system and we can pick up objects clearly deep down.

“The curved shape to any contact means it contains air, which suggests it was alive.

“It looks 100 per cent like the Loch Ness monster.

“Like an ancient dinosaur called the plesiosaur.

“Cruise Loch Ness has been doing this for nearly 60 years and it’s truly remarkable what we have picked up over the years.

“The loch is a time capsule that is slowly changing.

“The water is going from salt to fresh and the creatures in there have adapted and evolved to do the same.

“Large creatures are lurking in complete darkness in freezing cold at immense pressure.”
