Sweltered motorists’ had a stroke of luck during a two-hour-long 30C heatwave standstill on the M25 – after an ice cream van opened for business.
Fed-up drivers were marooned after a three-vehicle smash on the motorway.
But fortunately for them Piccadilly Whip’s van was also stuck in the jam.

The temperature was 30C (86F) at the time.
The ice cream van was on its way back from a show in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
They got caught in the tailbacks on the M25 between Junction two and three near Dartford, Kent.

The van was on its way back to Ockendon, Essex on Sunday (13 Jul) evening.
A spokesperson for Piccadilly Whip Catering Limited said: “When they shut the M25 for two hours and you have a non-stop queue.

“Sometimes you have to turn the bad times into good times.”
Locals were quick to praise the ice cream van company, as reported on What’s The Jam.

Paul Allensby joked: “The 99 has been renamed to 999.”
Wayne Mennell quipped: “The way the M25 is, that should be a regular pitch.”
Peter Matthews added: “Bet he made some money.”
Leanne Trigg said: “Never miss an opportunity.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick added: “Fair play.
“Why not in a standstill in boiling weather great job guys.”
John Bomar, the boss of Piccadilly Whip Catering Limited, said: “The van got caught in traffic for a couple of hours and they served non stop until the road reopened.
“They took as much money as at the show.”
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “The collision involved three vehicles.
“Officers and paramedics attended and a motorcyclist was taken to hospital with leg injuries.
“The road was temporarily closed and reopened shortly after 8pm.”
