A single dad who popped into his local store to get a salad and spontaneously bought a lottery ticket has won nearly $1m (approximately £788,500).
Brant Edgington went to the Baker’s grocery store in Fremont, Nebraska, for a spot of lunch when he took a chance and decided to play the Mega Millions.
He had no idea that he would walk away with the jackpot, as reported by What’s The Jam.

While his dad and granddad frequently like to play the Mega Millions and Powerball, Brant himself usually only gets a ticket if “the jackpot gets high”, adding that he “wasn’t expecting to buy a ticket at all”.
He said: “I don’t play all that often.
“As a single parent, bologna is more important, financially.”
By a twist of fate, there was also another person in the queue at the time who was cashing in scratch tickets.
Brant asked a shop worker to check his ticket and the team was stunned by the result.

He said: “They disappeared for a minute.
“Then a different lady came up with her and they just stared at me.
“She told me, ‘Don’t pass out when I tell you this.’”

Brant claimed the prize on 5 April – it was part of the 22 March draw for Mega Millions, according to the Nebraska Lottery.
The odds of winning $1m is around 1 in 12.6m
His lucky numbers were 03, 08, 31, 35, 44, though it did not include the Mega Ball, 16.
