A grandfather-of-12 has graduated with a top degree after pursuing a new career just two years shy of turning 70.
Chris Osagbaekhoe may be hitting retirement age at 68, but he shows no signs of slowing down, having just bagged a First Class honours degree in social work.
The later-in-life student joined the programme at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2022, having previously studied courses in psychology and counselling – garnering a strong interest in the subjects.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Chris now lives in Thamesmead, south-east London, where he hopes to put his newfound credentials to good use, as reported by What’s The Jam.
And he says his experience should be an inspiration for others to follow their passions at whatever stage in life.
Chris added: “If I can achieve this at 68, others can too.
“People are often far stronger and more capable than they realise.
“Life experience builds resilience, compassion and wisdom, qualities that are invaluable in social work and in life.”

The mature student’s experiences of living with disability himself encouraged him to become an advocate for others whose voices are too often unheard.
He explains: “There are abilities in disability.
“My lived experience has given me empathy, understanding and the determination to empower others.

“Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing people overcome adversity, regaining confidence and living with dignity.”
Chris is now embarking on the next chapter, seeking his first role as a qualified social worker.
As he walked across the graduation stage in September, he carried a message with him that continues into his working life – “Your dreams do not expire because of your age”.
