A chilly canine was saved after he fell through the ice on a frozen river.
The poor pooch, called Rupert, was unable to clamber out himself.
He managed to get his front paws on the edge of the ice, but couldn’t climb up.
His owner called in firefighters as they waited at the bank in Braintree, Massachusetts, US.

Rupert had slipped into the cold Weymouth Fore River.
Despite wearing a little doggie coat, he was succumbing to the cold.
Two fire engines were sent to save him.

One crew member used a rope and flotation device to reach him before carrying the dog to dry land.

The cold pup was reunited with his owners and was safe and well following the ordeal.
Local Susan Gruber said: “There are still wonderful people who give of themselves and put themselves at risk for helpless creatures and people, too.
“It is very heartening.”

Richard DePaulo added: “That water looks terribly cold.
“That dog must have been close to frostbite.
“Thank God they saved him in time.”
Judith Chute said: “Little pup fell in, coat and all.
“A wonderful ending.”
The rescue took place on 24 January.
A Braintree Fire Department spokesperson said: “Around 8:30 am, engine three and engine one were dispatched for a report of a dog through the ice.
“Engine three found a small dog a few feet out in the water had fallen through broken ice and was hanging on with his front paws.
“Firefighter Cross donned a wet suit and made his way out to Rupert with a rope and a lifesaver ring and was able to carry him safely to shore.
“Rupert’s owner was waiting anxiously on the shore and they were happily reunited.”
