WHSmith has put security tags on Cadbury Mini Eggs to thwart shoplifters.

The anti-theft measure was stuck on the 1kg bag of the Easter chocolate treats.

They cost £19 at the High Street stationary chain stores.

It comes amid a rise in shoplifting nationwide which has coincided with the cost-of-living crisis.

But it left shoppers baffled.

They were spotted in the branch in John Street, Liverpool.

Ash, who spotted it, joked: “They better hatch dragons for £19.”

Lucy stated: “Screaming at the security tag.”

Tiffany said: “Sorry, but the security thing is a bit much.”

Another added: “No wonder they’re getting nicked.”

It comes after £5.25 boxes of chocolates were put in security cases in Co-op, in Ickenham, west London last December.

In March 2023, Tesco put tags on £2.35 packs of ham, in Blackpool, as reported by What’s The Jam.

WHSmith has been approached for a comment.
