WHSmith has put security tags on Cadbury Mini Eggs to thwart shoplifters.
The anti-theft measure was stuck on the 1kg bag of the Easter chocolate treats.
They cost £19 at the High Street stationary chain stores.
It comes amid a rise in shoplifting nationwide which has coincided with the cost-of-living crisis.
But it left shoppers baffled.
They were spotted in the branch in John Street, Liverpool.
Ash, who spotted it, joked: “They better hatch dragons for £19.”
Lucy stated: “Screaming at the security tag.”
Tiffany said: “Sorry, but the security thing is a bit much.”
Another added: “No wonder they’re getting nicked.”
Sally Quick said: “Only a fool would pay that.”
It comes after £5.25 boxes of chocolates were put in security cases in Co-op, in Ickenham, west London last December.
In March 2023, Tesco put tags on £2.35 packs of ham, in Blackpool, as reported by What’s The Jam.
WHSmith has been approached for a comment.
