An overwhelmed groom who couldn’t handle the emotion of his big day has fainted while standing at the altar next to his wife.
One of the 200 guests filmed the moment Gustavo Schmitz began to sway backwards while holding his bride’s hand.
The minister put down the microphone he was speaking into and ran over to catch him.

Shrieks were heard as the 25-year-old groom hit the ground.
A pair of guests immediately ran over to help.
“The week leading up to it was hectic with all the preparations,” Gustavo, who works as a teacher, told What’s The Jam.

“The day itself was a rush – guests already arriving and loads of things to sort out.
“I’ve struggled with anxiety for years – sometimes I take medication for it – and I was already breathless when things started.

“As the ushers began walking in, I told two of them that my body was tingling, but since I’m always the funny guy, joking around about everything, they didn’t believe me.”
It was when the love of his life, Pâmela Berto, entered the venue in Salete – north-west of Florianópolis, Brazil – that Gustavo became overwhelmed.
He said: “When my bride walked in – looking even more stunning than usual – my body started to go weak.

“I went to meet her on the red carpet aisle, and as the pastor began speaking, I told her I wasn’t feeling well.
“I was still joking a bit, so she believed me but didn’t realise how serious it was.”
Gustavo and Pâmela, 23, had long known each other in their small town of 7,000 people.
They began chatting on social media before becoming a couple six months later.
They had already tied the knot in a registry office before the ceremony on Saturday (7 Jun).

Gustavo said: “When I fainted, she grabbed my suit jacket, but I fell on her dress and she couldn’t hold me up.
“The pastor ran over and grabbed my sleeve, stopping me from hitting my head on the floor.
“Then my friend Eduardo, who’s a doctor, came quickly, checked my pulse, and gave me first aid together with the pastor.
“I fainted again briefly, but came around shortly after, and then we continued with the ceremony.
“It was all beautiful and amazing.”
