With prices of food staples rising in the UK, one man has left the internet divided with his unusual ‘hack’ to get more cheese for less cash.
While at Morrison’s, Elliot William from Preston, Lancashire, came up with a sneaky way for scoring himself quality fromage at a lower cost.
The supermarket has a salad bar, which allows customers with a More card to choose from a range of options, plus a drink and dessert for £3.50.
However, instead of putting together a salad, the 36-year-old opted for a bowl of grated cheese, flattening the product in the process so that he could get as much cheese as humanly possible into the container.

Elliot also made a point of picking the most expensive drink available with the deal – a smoothie that would otherwise cost £2.35 – and a protein yoghurt.
“Cheese is one of the most expensive items on the salad bar,” Elliot, who is self-employed, told What’sTheJam.co.uk.
“It was a social experiment to see how much cheese I could get into the tub.
“The cheese tasted fine.

“Some people on TikTok said they wouldn’t eat cheese that’s been breathed on, but I had no problem with it.
“People are very fussy about cheese that’s offered to the public.
“In Morrison’s, it costs £2.80 for 500 grams of cheese and I got slightly more than that.

“I could have got more but I didn’t want the tub to be overflowing with cheese.
“The drink and the yogurt were expensive outside the meal deal too.
“I like smoothies but they cost a lot of money.
“So I’ve got a smoothie and a protein yoghurt worth more than £4 for 70p.
“I think it’s worth it overall if you want the cheese and if you want the meal deal.”
Elliot’s hack has received a mixed response on TikTok.
Some users praised it as a genius, while other users said they’d rather pay for the product than eat “communal cheese”.
“Nice idea, but I’d rather pay more for noncommunal cheese,” wrote one user.
Someone else added: “The salad bar cheese has been breathed over though.”
“My friend, this is why we follow you, the research and commitment is unparalleled.
We salute you,” said a third person.
Meanwhile, a fourth person simply concluded that this was the reason they couldn’t get any cheese to go with their actual salad at the bar.
“This is why there’s never any cheese in the salad bar,” they wrote, to which Elliot jokingly replied: “The game’s the game.”
He added that his biggest tip for anyone looking to bag a bargain is to shop around and buy in bulk when they see a good deal.
Jam Press has contacted Morrison’s for comment.
