A savvy shopper has shared a “money saver” hack that helps supermarket customers who want to spend less on fruit and vegetables.
Many people are struggling with rising costs and are searching for ways to keep their shopping bills down, from switching up which stores they visit to making the most of loyalty schemes and vouchers.
One mum has taken to social media after discovering a clever trick to ensuring that you get the cheapest prices on your fruit and vegetables, no matter which supermarket you visit.

In the clip, Alex Grogan shared the simple way shoppers can keep costs low on fresh food.
In the video, the 30-year-old specifically talks about using the trick in Tesco, but says it can be used at “any store that has weighing scales”.
According to Alex, shoppers should ditch pre-packaged fruit and veg and instead opt for the loose products available and weigh them individually.
She estimates this could save more than half the price it would cost to buy them packaged on the same aisle.
“I actually just discovered it by chance,” Alex, from Aberdeen, told What’s The Jam.

“I was randomly reading how much the loose onions were after only needing one for the week’s meals and discovered it was so much cheaper than buying three and potentially wasting two.”
She added: “It has helped as I don’t have any more food wastage as I buy the amount of items I need.
“And if you’re buying a lot of fruit and veg, it shaves a fair bit off your weekly shop.”

The mum also said sometimes the loose items could be smaller than you’d find in a packet, so to “make sure they are a decent size” to ensure you’re getting what you need.

The mum encouraged people to use the Tesco app to create a shopping list – then the app tells you exactly which aisle in your local store you’ll find your products.
The shopping list can also be filtered by aisle, so you can follow an exact route through the store and be sure you won’t miss anything.
