Aldi has removed Argentinian wine from the shelves of one of its UK stores ahead of England’s crunch World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
Shoppers visiting the supermarket’s wine aisle were met with empty shelves where the popular Argentinian Malbec would usually be displayed.
Instead, a sign read: “We have removed our Argentinian Malbec from the shelves in solidarity ahead of the game tomorrow. It’s coming home!”

The bottles that have been pulled from the shelf include Aldi’s Buenos Vides Argentinian Malbec (£5.29), Buenos Vides Interi-Mendoza Malbec (£6.85) and Buenos Vides Jammy Malbec (£5.99).
The supermarket said the tongue-in-cheek move was a show of patriotic support ahead of tonight’s highly anticipated showdown, as reported by Whats The Jam.
Customers looking for a bottle to enjoy while watching the match are instead being encouraged to choose one of Aldi’s non-Argentinian wines.

Aldi also shared the stunt on Instagram, posting: “The only thing NOT coming home is your nice bottle of vino (soz x).”
The retailer doubled down in the caption, joking: “If this doesn’t help us win, we don’t know what will.”
