A cat thought to be Britain’s fattest has been put on diet after ballooning to a stone-and-a-half.
Ginger and white tom cat Leo was overweight when he arrived at a rehoming centre.
His weight works out at 22lb or 9.9kg.

The massive moggie was over double the weight of an average cat which weighs about 9lbs.
The seven-year-old caused a stir after being admitted to the Cats Protection Centre, Downham Market, Norfolk, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Lisa Snowden, welfare and homing assistant, said: “Larger than life Leo is a super cuddly gent who is looking for his new owner to be a diet and lifestyle coach as well as a warm lap to sit on.
“Although Leo currently spends much of his time chilling indoors, when he’s slimmed down, he’ll make the most amazing companion.
“He’s such a lovely lad with a soft heart and a gentle nature.

“Leo is certainly the biggest cat I’ve seen in my 15 years of working here.

“We believe it was a case of overfeeding him over a long period, with food being available all the time.”
Leo was put on a diet after being admitted in October.

And has since been reserved by new owners.
Obesity puts cats at risk of health issues, including diabetes, arthritis and urinary complications.
It also prevents them from displaying their natural tendencies to groom and play.
