An American living in the UK has called Brits ‘crazy’ for doing this one ‘very confusing’ thing.

Russell Valentin recently moved to London from the Windy City.

While here, the content creator is trying and testing many UK staple food and drink items, as well as trying to learn traditional English lingo.

He’s been dubbed an ‘honorary Brit’ by some people online; though his latest video may see him stripped of the title, reports What’s The Jam.

In a clip, which has racked up over 574,000 views and 26,000 likes, he reveals the ‘most confusing thing’ we do in the UK, which he thinks is ‘crazy’.

Russell says it’s not taxes, or transportation; but our variety of names for the simple bread roll.

He said: “In the States, we call that a dinner roll.

“Apparently, if you live in Northern Ireland, Stoke-on-Trent, or the North of Wales, [it’s] called a bap.

“In the West of Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Blackpool, [it’s] called a barm.

“On the Wirral and in Coventry, they call it a batch.

“From Sheffield to Hull, [it’s] called a bread cake.

“Going further North, particularly Newcastle, they call it a bun.

“And in the triangle of Nottingham, Birmingham and Leicester, they call it a cob.”

In the Northeast of Manchester, it’s called a ‘muffin’ and in the South of England, as well as Scotland, it’s simply named a ‘roll’.

But in between Leeds and Preston, the bread dome is referred to as a ‘tea cake’.

Russ said: “I promise I’m not just taking the p*ss, this is actually really cool to learn about all the dialects of the UK.

“But it’s also very confusing sometimes.

“Being British is fun.”

In another video, which has racked up over 111,000 views and 3,000 likes, he delves into more names.

He said: “In the Northwest, we have barm cake.

“In Wales, [it’s called] Bara.

“In Aberdeen, we have softie.

“Also in Scotland, we have morning roll.

“I am to assume they call it this because they eat it at breakfast perhaps.”

In Yorkshire, it’s ‘stotty’ or ‘scuffler’ – but in Lancashire, it’s called an ‘oven bottom’.

And in Bolton, it’s a ‘flower cake’.

Russ added: “Personally I don’t see a flower, nor cake, being involved.

“I’m sure there’s a reason for it.”

He says it’s ‘fascinating’ despite being left confused.

The content creator was recently ‘forced’ to apologise to Brits after eating a staple Christmas treat wrong.

Russ tucked into a Terry’s Chocolate Orange whole, instead of by segment, and criticised how ‘messy’ it was.

He received backlash from multiple people, including the brand themselves.

To redeem his honorary title, he tried out other Terry’s Chocolate products the right way – but despite his mishap, the original was still his favourite.
