Escaped sheep caused chaos after it escaped onto train tracks, unsuspected visitor on the rails.

The 26-year-old waited for over an hour in the rain as workers attempted to usher the animal to safety.

According to Lewis, it took around seven members of staff to corner the farm animal before it made its own way back to the field.

He was getting a Great Western Railway service from Tiverton Parkway station to London Paddington on Monday (21 Apr).

After the Bank Holiday weekend, Lewis from Bradninch, northeast of Exeter, Devon, was hoping for a smooth trip back to the capital.

But a curious sheep scuppered his 8am set off time after fleeing from its home – a local farm.

“It was a bit of a nightmare day of travel to be honest,” Lewis Budd told What’s The Jam.

“The sheep was already on the track when I arrived, however it was much further up so it was gradually running towards the station.

“It had escaped from a field nearby as a farmer was also there trying to get the sheep off of the line working with staff.

“It’s pretty typical that things like this happen around here, I wasn’t surprised.

“It took maybe seven members of staff to try and corner the animal but it kept running off, eventually it just evaded them and safely ran back into a field.

“I was travelling to London and it delayed my journey.

“The funny thing is I was also delayed coming back home; all trains were suspended back to the southwest due to a signal failure from Paddington.

“So I had to get home via Bristol, which caused further delays of around five hours.”

A spokesperson for GWR said: “We are really sorry if your journey through Tiverton was delayed on Easter Monday.

“Unfortunately, some sheep got onto the line and it had to be closed while they were recovered.

“If you were affected, you may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation and we would urge you to get in touch.”
