A little boy being baptised declared he was “Messi” after confusing become Christian with arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The eight-year-old – called Ryan – was being spoken to by the priest.

He was asked “Queres ser Cristiano?” which translates as “Do you want to be Christian?”

But the Argentinian lad – a big fan of football great Lionel Messi – thought the priest was referring to Portuguese great Ronaldo.

The pair were rivals when they respectively played for Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Football fans have long debated which of the two superstars is best, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The priest said: “Dear family, do you want Ryan Piano to receive baptism with the faith we are sharing?”

“Yes,” those present replied.

The priest then realised his confusion and the family laughed.

He rephrased it and said: “Ah, do you want to be friends with Jesus?”

The lad replied: “Yes.”

The priest added: “He wants to be Messi.”

It happened in at a church near Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday (28 Aug).

One local said: “Get this kid now.

“We’re making him vice president.”

“And she the national team play.”

A third added: “Hey kid, he asked you if you wanted to be a Christian, not God.”
