Airport goers have been tasked to name Heathrow’s beloved cleaning bots.

The fleet of 23 ‘cobots’ are now in need of their own names after becoming so popular amongst passengers.

With over 200,000 punters passing through every day, the bots have been applauded for their ability to weave through the hustle and bustle of the airport.

The R2-D2 and Dalek-looking automated machines are now being celebrated for their dedicated service.

Airport goers have been encouraged to let their creative juices flow to come up with individual names for the bots.

A shortlist of the best names will be put together, with punters able to submit until 15 Dec, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The list announced on 16 Dec will then head to a final vote, which will go live on the Heathrow website.

The ‘cobots’ have been touring the terminals, keeping them in top condition for the last three years.

Whilst recycling water on the move, each machine cleans an area the size of eight football pitches a day.

The machines mop and polish the floor for three hours before needing a recharge.
Once fully powered, they head back out on shift.

Daniel Edwards, Director of Services at Heathrow, said: “Amidst the hustle and bustle of the airport, our endearing fleet of cobots work diligently to keep our terminals safe and squeaky clean.

“Now, having achieved ‘icon’ status amongst Heathrow colleagues and passengers, we are excited to invite the public to help us award each cobot its own unique name.

“Whether it’s a clever pun, a sci-fi tribute or something totally unexpected, we are looking forward to seeing what people come up with.”
