A young woman suffers from a rare condition that makes her look like she has a cat’s eyes.
Anelize Kloster’s pupils are elongated and are at the bottom of her eyes instead of in the centre of her irises.
It’s the result of Schmid-Fraccaro syndrome, which happens when there’s a problem with the 22nd chromosome.
Only between one in 50,000 and one in 150,000 people in the world have it.

Schmid-Fraccaro syndrome is also called ‘cat eye syndrome‘.
Anelize, 29, told local media in Guarapuava, Brazil: “My mother used to tell me that when I was born, the doctor said, ‘Look, a little kitten’s been born’.”

Anelize’s condition has compromised 30 per cent of the vision in her right eye.
She also has myopia and astigmatism.

But, she said: “I can say that I see normally because I don’t know how other people see, but in my vision, I see normally like everyone else.”
Anelize has tens of thousands of followers on social media.
But a TikTok video of her talking about her condition recently went viral with millions of views.

In the clip, she revealed that the most common clarifications she has to make are that she sees normally, she doesn’t wear contacts, and she hasn’t tattooed her eyeballs.
She said: “At first, it always causes a stir, both at school and at college.
“But then, as time goes by and people get to know me, it becomes normal.
“I say: I was born like this, folks. And God wanted it this way, let’s respect God’s artwork.”
Anelize loves her “super different” eyes.
She said: “Of course, today I think it’s even more beautiful, right? Because as we grow up, become women, it’s a distinctive feature.”
Schmid-Fraccaro syndrome arises during gestation and has no treatment.
Ophthalmologist Carlos Augusto Bastos told local media: “The symptoms vary greatly from person to person.
“Some patients are born blind, some are sensitive to light, some have heart or kidney diseases, and some just have different eyes.”
