After 37 years, a book on psychedelics returned to a Colorado library with a note: “Sorry so late! It's been a long, strange trip.” Guns N' Roses hadn't released Appetite for Destruction, and Lionel Messi wasn't born when it was due. A library spokesperson said: “Guns N’ Roses was still a couple months away from releasing Appetite for Destruction on the day this book was due.

“Lionel Messi was born like two months after this was due.”

The spokesperson joked: “Far be it from us to suggest that a book on psychedelics may have affected someone’s perception of time.

“If anyone can beat the current record of 13,437 days, I’m offering you total amnesty for the safe return of your items.

“Although I’m not encouraging you to check something out today and return late enough to bear the record, which would be 1 January 2061.”

The library added that the book will be archived as it is slightly damaged.
