McDonald’s has hired a humanoid robot to serve customers – greeting diners and delivering meals in a glimpse into the future of dining.
The robo-worker – supplied by Keenon Robotics – has been introduced at a McDonald’s branch as part of a trial to test how automation could support staff.
The android can welcome customers, carry trays of food and interact with diners inside the restaurant.

It has been designed to work alongside human employees rather than replace them, helping with basic front-of-house tasks.
The futuristic machine has already drawn attention from visitors, with many keen to see the technology in action.
The trial is currently limited to a single location in Shanghai, China, where the company is experimenting with how robots could improve efficiency and customer experience.
“Our Humanoid series are leading the squad and hitting the streets,” Keenon Robotcs posted on Facebook alongside a clip of the robot on Tuesday (17 March).
“It’s a showcase of how service automation is becoming a seamless part of global dining, and how technology brings more smiles to every mealtime,” Keenon Robotics added.

The machine is capable of navigating the restaurant floor, avoiding obstacles and delivering orders directly to tables.
It can also respond to simple interactions, creating a more engaging experience for customers.
While still in its early stages, the trial offers a glimpse into how robotics could play a bigger role in everyday environments.
