In a bizarre twist of fate, an ex-deep sea fisherman has won $1m (approximately £788,500) after buying a “Jaws” scratch card.

Michael Stephens says he is going to share his newfound fortune with his family and travel the globe with his wife.

Although he won $1m, he chose to receive a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

The store will be awarded a $10,000 bonus as well.

According to Mass Lottery, the odds of Michael winning were one in 1,344,000.

The Jaws lottery scratch card is new, having only been launched on 26 March, as reported by What’s The Jam.

There are four $1m grand prizes left to be claimed, including a Second Chance drawing event for an all-inclusive three-night stay for two at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, in 2025.

Winners also get $1,000 in spending cash and a private Jaws movie screening.

Six trip winners have been announced so far:

Brant Edgington went to the Baker’s grocery store in Fremont, Nebraska, for a spot of lunch when he took a chance and decided to play the Mega Millions.

He had no idea that he would walk away with the jackpot.

While his dad and granddad frequently like to play the Mega Millions and Powerball, Brant himself usually only gets a ticket if “the jackpot gets high”, adding that he “wasn’t expecting to buy a ticket at all”.

He said: “I don’t play all that often.

“As a single parent, bologna is more important, financially.”

Brant claimed the prize on 5 April – it was part of the 22 March draw for Mega Millions, according to the Nebraska Lottery.
