A determined bride and groom carried on with their wedding video in torrential rain — even as fire crews worked to clear a fallen tree from the road behind them.

Newlyweds Anna and Ģirts refused to let a violent storm ruin their big day, braving flooded streets, howling wind and turned-inside-out umbrellas to capture the moment on camera.

Footage shows the pair posing as rain lashed down around them, with a fire engine seen in the background after a huge tree crashed onto the road they were travelling along.

The couple even carried out a local wedding tradition, with the groom carrying the bride across a historic bridge despite the extreme conditions.

“We were lucky that the ceremony itself was held inside a church,” videographer Sintija Eglīte told What’s The Jam, who was hired to film the event alongside Toms Eglīte, her husband and colleague.

“During the ceremony, an emergency alert came through warning us that a storm was approaching.

“The view outside the windows was not exactly reassuring.

“My shoes were already soaked the first time I stepped out of the car that morning.

“The streets were flooded, and the rain was absolutely pouring.”

Ģirts carried Anna across the bridge as the pair completed several playful challenges along the way, with onlookers’ umbrellas turning inside out in the wind as the storm intensified.

The drama didn’t end there.

As the wedding party made their way to a nearby forest for more snaps, they found the road blocked by a huge fallen tree.

Moments later, sirens rang out as firefighters arrived on the scene in the middle of the video shoot.

The crew congratulated the newlyweds on their big day before clearing the tree, while Anna and Ģirts shared a kiss and a spontaneous dance in the rain.

Sintija said: “For those few moments, they completely lost themselves in the moment and simply let their emotions take over.

The wedding took place last Saturday (22 Aug) in Latvia, with the ceremony held at St Anne’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kuldīga and the celebration in nearby Kalvene Parish.

Sintija said the couple had quickly decided to embrace the chaos rather than fight it.

But keeping her camera equipment dry was a big challenge, with the professional shielding it with an umbrella and her own windbreaker.

She said: “I think the couple simply decided that they had to stop fighting the weather and start enjoying the day exactly as it was.

“It definitely wasn’t the kind of weather you normally want to take your camera out in, but there were moments that simply had to be captured.

“It was genuinely romantic.

“ The moment they started dancing in the rain, I already had a song playing in my head and could visualise exactly how the scene would look in the finished film.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.

It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

“I think this quote perfectly captures Anna and Ģirts’ wedding day — they didn’t wait for the storm to pass; they simply learned to dance in it.”
