A burger with a chicken foot poking out of the bun has been slammed by customers who say they don’t need food “needing a pedicure.”

BirdBox New York is serving up a dish called Claude the Claw.

It is made up of a whole fried chicken leg in a bap with slaw, pickles and yeayo sauce.

And true to its name, the meal comes complete with the bird’s foot still attached.

The restaurant has described the sandwich as “so audacious, it’s got its foot hanging out”.

And some foodies said the addition reassures them that they’re eating fresh meat, as reported by What’s the Jam.

One customer said: “I won’t lie to you, it was the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had good chicken sandwiches.

“I want everyone to eat this thing.”

But others slammed the foot as off-putting and unnecessary.

One person added: “I don’t want a sandwich that needs a pedicure.”

A second said: “The sandwich looks delicious, until that damn foot.”

Another added: “Oh my God, I was not expecting the leg sticking out.”

A fourth diner said: “No ma’am, I don’t want to foot an extra bill for that.”

Another added: “My issue is that there is a bone in my sandwich. I don’t care that it’s a foot.

“If I get a rack of ribs in my sandwich I’d also be upset about the bone. Put it on the side.”

Another said: “I might order it, but I’d definitely cut that foot off before consuming.”

One commented: “Imagine you ordered it for delivery but didn’t quite read the full description.”

The sandwich, which is described as “juicy, crunchy and unforgettable” is on sale for £14.26 ($18.99).

Posting to Instagram, the restaurant explained that chickens with their head and feet intact indicate they’ve had a better quality of life.

It wrote: “The commodity chicken industry is notoriously inhumane.

“While seeing chickens with their heads and feet intact may be uncomfortable for some, their absence tells a painful truth – that these birds were so battered that these parts had to be removed.

“Keeping a chicken whole indicates care and a better quality of life.

“At Birdbox, we are committed to supporting farmers who maintain higher standards.

“Our chickens are whole, free-range, organic, and vegetarian-fed.

“Claude the Claw is a reminder of the importance of our food choices.

“He might seem intimidating at first, but for us, he’s a mascot for better things.”

A spokesperson added: “We serve fried chicken, but we embrace what some might call ‘Quirks’.

“We call it a regular day in the kitchen.

“We are intentional about how we source, cook and serve, our chickens are healthy and happy. Pretty darn tasty too.

“Birdbox birds are sourced with their heads and feet intact. Whole, unashamedly.

“While possibly intimidating at first blush, Claude the Claw is our source of reassurance and an indicator of quality.

“Claude is a reminder of the kind of food system we are proud to support. A kinder one. Also more delicious.”
