Pupils who support Manchester United have had to fork out £10 more than their City rivals for a school backpack.

All 20 Premier League clubs are selling classroom items as kids head back to lessons after the summer holidays.

They are flogging stationary and pencil cases, featuring the team crests.

For the two Manchester sides, their rivalry has spilt out off the pitch and into the club shops.

The blue side of the city is charging fans £25 for a backpack whilst United prices theirs at £35 making it one of the most expensive bags in the league.

The Red Devils join both Arsenal and Chelsea in charging fans the most for a backpack, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Despite being one of the richest clubs in the world Newcastle United are charging a reasonable £16 for a magpie-branded backpack.

The title of the cheapest backpack falls to West Ham United as they offer a £15 item with their club mascot Bubbles the Bear on the back.

Lunch bags are also the flavour of the month with plenty of Premier League clubs offering their own badge branded bags.

Out of the big boys, only Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are offering fans a lunch box in the club shop.

Both items are priced at £15.

A return to the top tier of English football for Ipswich Town has seen them release their own back-to-school line.

This includes a £15 lunchbox for youngsters to eat their sandwiches in style.

Manchester United are also charging a whopping £35 for their pencil case set, making it the most expensive in the league.

The pencil case set features a water bottle, pencils, a ruler, rubbers, a notepad and a sharpener.

Unfortunate Arsenal fans wanting to carry their pens and pencils in style will be left empty-handed, with the club not offering one in the club shop.

Southampton are locked in the most expensive footy-branded pencil case on the market.

The side tipped for relegation is offering a £10 case fit for any fan heading into the new school term.

Manchester City described their backpack as: “A backpack to carry with pride while it carries all your necessities.

“Reflective details, the contrasting Puma Cat logo and the iconic Manchester City crest bring the team spirit in style.”

Manchester United described their backpack as: “Great for carrying the essentials to school, to the gym, or when travelling, this Manchester United backpack lets fans proudly show their support.”

Newcastle United stated: “Gold zip and toggle accessories add a touch of elegance to this functional and fashionable accessory, perfect for any Newcastle United fan.”
