Shoppers have been left outraged after the budget clothes chain says its name is pronounced ‘Preemark’ not Primark.
The correct way to say the fashion retailer’s moniker is often a touchy subject.
The original Penneys brand that started in Ireland is known as Primark to the rest of the world.

However, a chain located Braehead shopping centre, Glasgow, has now put up their own sign to settle the debate.

Some shoppers have been left outraged by the window display which states: “Its pronounced Preemark.”
The statement piece also shows the shop’s name with the ‘Pri’ crossed out and replaced with ‘Pree’.
Despite claiming the ‘debate is settled’, the store’s actions have sparked fury across the UK – with many punters left fuming.
The display was launched yesterday (21 Aug), as reported by What’s The Jam.

Shoppers pulled no punches whilst voicing their opinions on the debate.
Emma Tonks said: “Absolutely not, I used to work there and it was always Primark.”

Ellie said: “Anyone that says Preemark can’t speak properly.

“It’s Pri-mark, the way it’s actually spelt.”
Susie said: “Preemark is how it’s pronounced properly in Scotland.”

One added: “If it’s spelled Preemark then yes, if it’s spelled Primark then no.”
Another said: “Hell yes. Of course it’s Preemark.
“There’s archive radio adverts when it opened in the 70s for Preemark.”
But there is a reason for it and it won’t affect all of its stores.
The rebranding is just on the 21 shops in Scotland.
It is to mark the company’s 50 year anniversary north of the border.
Gavin O’Reilly, Area Manager for Primark Scotland West and Cumbria, who currently oversees Primark’s first store in Hamilton, Scotland, said: “Our loyal Scottish shoppers have been instrumental to our success over the last 50 years.
“So we thought it was high time we acknowledged it in true Primark style.
“It’s a proud moment for all our stores to be celebrating our milestone together with a fun ‘Preemark’ nod.
“Which is simply what we know our Scottish shoppers and colleagues are calling us every day anyway.”
