King Charles wants a royal librarian to look after his 220,000-strong book collection.

The job will pay £28,000-a-year.

Windsor Castle is on the lookout for a reading enthusiast to help preserve the royal collection of books and manuscripts.

The assistant book conservator will be expected to work 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday.

The applicant will earn £14.36 an hour and be based in the royal library inside the castle.

The hourly rate works out at £28,002-per annum.

They’ll be required to have experience in book and paper conservation, an understanding and practical experience of historic book binding and excellent manual skills.

They’ll also need to be aware of the optimal environmental conditions for the collection, supporting its long-term preservation for future generations.

The applicant will assist with the preservation of books making sure they receive the highest standards of care, carry out conservation work, participate in visits and public events, as reported by What’s the Jam.

The job ad reads: “You’ll assist with the preservation and conservation of books and documents within the Royal Archives, ensuring they receive the highest standards of care.

“You’ll independently carry out conservation work, with oversight from your line manager, maintaining attention to detail and professional standards.

“You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across the Royal Library and Archives to enhance and maintain best practices.

“You’ll document all conservation efforts through thorough written and photographic records.”

It adds: “You’ll contribute to the Royal Collection’s exhibition programme by ensuring the timely and appropriate conservation of relevant materials.

“You’ll be aware of the optimal environmental conditions for the collection, supporting its long-term preservation.

“You’ll participate in visits and public events, sharing the work of the Bindery and Royal Archives with external colleagues and the public.”
