Every year, restaurants and brands hop on the Christmas bandwagon by offering one-off merry meals or menus to entice customers.

Some are great, while others – like the infamous Walkers Brussels sprouts crisps – are less so.

One business muscling in on the action this year is Pizza Pilgrims.

The chain has just announced the launch of its Christmas-themed dish: ‘It’s a Wonderful Slice’.

Sticking to festive colours, the green-and-white pizza features a Fior di Latte and parmesan base, topped with mortadella, pistachio cream and some extra crushed pistachios thrown in for good measure.

It is topped with your very own snowball: a big white ball of burrata.

With the weather still quite warm, it seems some Brits are not quite ready to get in the merry mood.

“Too early – Oxford street Christmas lights aren’t on yet,” said food blogger, Paul Brown, who later seemed contrite after realising the lights had indeed gone on.

“Awkward lights went on tonight – kicking off,” he added.

Others don’t mind a bit of early festive joy but are not sold on the pistachio ingredient, comparing it to the controversial pineapple.

Charlie said: “It usually irritates me when I see Christmas-themed items popping up on shelves in October and November but food-wise – I love it.

“You cannot beat a festive bake and I wouldn’t be opposed to them being a permanent item on the menu.

“As for pistachio, I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole, up there with putting pineapple on a pizza – disgraceful.”

“Horribly early for me! I’m curious… but can’t imagine it working well,” added Lee.

Amy said: “I have a nut allergy so I can’t try it but even if nuts wouldn’t kill me, I’d be a no – this sounds gross.”

Others however were excited at the prospect of a new flavour.

Jade said: “I think it’s a good idea, as allows people to prepare and get organised for Christmas. I would try it!”

“Get me these flavours,” said another pizza maker.

To save you from potential disappointment, What’s The Jam took it upon ourselves to try the merry meals.

And truth be told, we’re on the fence.

On the upside, the quirky interior of bizarre sun lounger umbrella lamps, random hats and red and green checkered tablecloths will put you in a good mood instantly.

Pizza Pilgrims also has excellent dough, a solid 9 out of 10.

As for the so-called wonderful slice itself, the first taste was not too bad.

Unsurprisingly, the mortadella – which often contains pistachio – works quite well with the sauce.

But by slice three, it all felt a bit heavy and overwhelming.

It eventually turned into ‘A Very Confusing Flavour Slice’.

As all Brits know, it’s not Christmas without a few pieces of Terry’s chocolate orange after the Turkey dinner.

The Pizza Pilgrims chefs have combined the sweet treat with the Italian Tiramisu, creating the aptly-named, Terrymisu.

This meal was fault-free – we would like the recipe to make this at home, please.

As for the pizza though, perhaps best to stick to Margherita.
