A racing car driven by Gran Turismo video game creator Kazunori Yamauchi is on sale for £200,000.

The Nissan R35 GT-R was the first to contest the Nürburgring 24 Hours race.

Driven by Yamauchi it car won its class on debut in 2011.

The result that helped cement the R35’s reputation for durability and pace.

The car played a key role in the early development of the GT-R as a customer racing platform.

It benefited from close collaboration between Schulze Motorsport, NISMO and Polyphony Digital, and was later developed towards GT3 specification.

Following its Nürburgring success, the GTR remained with Schulze Motorsport and was continuously refined, before being fully rebuilt in 2016 with a NISMO GT3 engine and supporting components, as reported by, Whats The Jam.

Its listing says: “The Nissan GTR offers buyers the chance to acquire a modern endurance racing car with clear provenance, documented results and relevance to the wider story of Nissan’s GT racing programme.

“It’s class win at one of the world’s most demanding events, combined with its association with Kazunori Yamauchi, places it firmly among the most significant customer GT-R race cars of its era.

“It is now offered with a comprehensive history file and a selection of valuable spares.”

Iconic Auctioneers will offer a Nissan R35 GT-R race car driven by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at its Competition Cars Sale at Race Retro on Saturday 21 February.

It is being sold alongside the first Nissan 370Z GT4 Nismo built for the PlayStation-backed GT Academy programme.

Commissioned by Nissan as part of its factory-backed GT Academy initiative, the 370Z GT4 served as a bridge between gaming and professional racing, providing competition machinery for the winners and finalists of the PlayStation-backed programme.

Chassis #001 competed in the European GT4 Cup and was driven by several GT Academy graduates.

It is being sold with an estimate of £50,000 to £60,000.

Car expert, Steven Keen, said: “I’m fortunate to represent fascinating cars with genuine motorsport history and it’s particularly rewarding to present two race cars in the same auction with such strong links to Gran Turismo and the GT Academy, a programme that famously enabled aspiring drivers to translate gaming talent into real-world racing success.”

Both are being sold by Iconic Auctioneers at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on 21 February.
