Pets at Home has launched its own pet insurance service offering annual veterinary fee cover of up to £15,000.

The retailer has introduced three levels of lifetime cover for dogs and cats, with qualifying dental treatment included as standard.

Pets Insurance launched exclusively through Compare the Market on August 19 and is due to become available through the Pets at Home website and app from September.

The move marks the latest expansion of the company’s pet care services, which already include shops, veterinary practices, grooming and its Pets Club membership programme.

Brits can now choose between three annual veterinary fee limits depending on the cover required, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Dog owners can select cover worth £4,000, £7,000 or £15,000, while the options for cats are £3,000, £5,000 and £10,000.

As lifetime policies, the allowance renews each year if the customer continues to renew their cover.

This means eligible long-term conditions which develop after the policy begins can remain covered in future years.

There is no separate limit for each condition within the overall annual veterinary fee allowance.

All three options include cover for accidents, illnesses and eligible dental treatment, alongside benefits such as hydrotherapy, behavioural therapy, prescribed diet support and help if a pet goes missing.

Customers will also receive access to a 24-hour pet advice line.

Claims can be handled directly with veterinary practices through a new online portal, which Pets at Home said would reduce paperwork for owners.

However, the policies do not cover pre-existing conditions or routine care such as vaccinations, flea treatments and grooming.

Pets Insurance managing director Matt Poll said: “Pet insurance can often feel confusing and difficult to navigate.

“We’ve listened to what pet owners want and developed three easy-to-understand products designed to give greater confidence and peace of mind.

“By removing features that can create confusion, such as per-condition limits and multiple excess charges, and simplifying the claims process, we’re helping owners focus on their pets rather than paperwork.”
