A rare Mercedes inspired by Sir Stirling Moss’ iconic F1 car is selling for £3.5m – and it’s only done 37 miles.

This breathtaking 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is one of only 75 models ever built.

Despite its 15-year age, the motor is in fantastic condition, averaging just under two and a half miles a year.

The supercar is modelled on the Mercedes-Benz’s iconic 300 SLR, driven by Sir Stirling Moss and co-driver Dennis Jenkinson.

The pair achieved a record-breaking victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia in the motor, cementing its place in history.

Equipped with a hair-raising 5.4-litre supercharged V8 engine, the supercar has a dazzling top speed of 219mph.

The F1-inspired car boasts an incredible 650 horsepower.

The Mercedes can even go from nought to 60 in just 3.5 seconds, as reported by Whats The Jam.

The road-legal ride is believed to be one of just four finished in Designo Mystic White exterior.

The rest of the motor is covered in Crystal Laurite Silver Metallic over a Silver Arrow 300 SL red leather interior.

The supercar has had just two registered owners and was delivered new to Germany, where it currently resides in Grünwald.

The bidding, hosted by RM Sotheby’s, will end on 23 Oct.

A spokesperson for RM Sotheby’s said: “While ‘speedster-style’ supercars are now seemingly commonplace today, with companies such as Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin all having had their own take on that theme, it was the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss that kick-started this trend in the 21st century.

“With only seventy-five examples built, these are exceptionally rare cars already, with the cars originally finished in colours other than silver being even more desirable.

“With most of these locked away within long-term collections, this represents a remarkable opportunity to acquire a nearly-new example in a spectacular and seldom-seen colour scheme.”
