Brits still arguing over whether Jaffa Cakes are cakes or biscuits now have a new debate on their hands.
McVitie’s has unveiled its first-ever Jaffa Cookie – a brand-new twist on one of the nation’s most recognisable sweet treats.
The new snack, launched by McVitie’s owner pladis, combines the iconic orange-and-chocolate flavour of a Jaffa Cake with a soft-baked chocolate chip cookie.

Each cookie features a tangy orange-flavoured centre and is half-coated in chocolate.
The launch marks the latest attempt by the brand to play on the long-running argument over exactly what a Jaffa Cake is.
The new Jaffa Cookies are available now in Asda Express stores with a recommended retail price of £2.50, as reported by What’s The Jam.
They will roll out across Asda supermarkets from 25 June before launching in all major grocery retailers from 20 July.
Russell Smith, Marketing Manager at pladis UK & Ireland, said: “Everyone loves a Jaffa Cake, everyone loves a cookie, and Jaffa Cookies bring together the best of both worlds.

“It’s the iconic Jaffa flavour people know and love, wrapped up in a soft-baked cookie that’s perfect for those moments when only a cookie will do. And this one can be dunked!”
The launch comes as brands continue to experiment with mash-ups and new takes on familiar favourites in a bid to win over shoppers looking for something different.
And it’s not the only time McVitie’s has been playing with the famous Jaffa Cake formula.

Last month, the company launched what it described as an attempt to finally settle the decades-long cake-versus-biscuit debate.
The limited-edition Jaffa Cakes Digestives combined two of McVitie’s best-known products by pairing a traditional Digestive biscuit with a Jaffa Cake-flavoured topping.
The special edition hit shelves in Sainsbury’s on 21 May after years of online arguments over whether Jaffa Cakes belong in the biscuit tin.
