McDonald’s fans have been reacting online after customers noticed changes to the fast food chain’s popular Food for Thoughts survey offer.

The scheme, which rewards customers for completing feedback surveys, has long been seen by many diners as one of the cheapest ways to grab a discounted meal.

But reports shared online suggest the offer is changing in just a few days, as reported by Whats The Jam.

Reports from customers on the Reddit thread r/McdonaldsUK appear to show that from Thursday (21 May), customers completing the survey will instead receive a free medium fries, cheeseburger or McFlurry when spending £5.

Previously, many customers used the scheme to get a burger and fries meal for £2.99 after completing a receipt survey.

The reported changes sparked debate among McDonald’s fans online, with some saying they were disappointed to see the old deal go.

One user wrote: “Adios, Food For Thoughts. It was a good ride.”

Another added: “Well that’s a shame.”

A third person commented: “Food for thoughts is done? Then so are my days at Maccies.”

Someone else wrote: “Let’s all stop going to McDonalds then, they’re just being greedy now.” [sic]

McDonald’s confirmed there would be changes to the offer.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Customer feedback is incredibly important to us.

“Our Food for Thoughts survey takes just a few minutes to complete and offers great value in return for customers’ time and opinions.

“It’s just one example of how we continue to deliver value for customers, alongside trusted favourites like our Wrap of the Day and our Saver Menu.”

McDonald’s said the updated offer would continue to reward genuine feedback, with customers receiving a free medium fries, cheeseburger, Oreo McFlurry or Smarties McFlurry when spending £5.

The Food for Thoughts survey has become well known among regular McDonald’s customers in recent years as a way to unlock discounted meals through receipt codes printed after purchases.
