King Charles hiring £75,000-a-year tech expert to prevent cyber security attacks on royal family

King Charles is hiring a £75,000-a-year tech expert to prevent cyber security attacks on the royal family.

The successful applicant will head up a team to thwart hacking of the computer systems at Buckingham Palace.

They will work closely with boffins at the Government’s National Cyber Security Centre.

Job hopefuls will also need to encourage all the 800-plus staff at the royal residence to be aware of the threat.

They will need to be “calm under pressure”, good at identifying risks, and provide good, cheap options to solve them.

The expert will work 37-and-a-half hours per week.

They will get 25 days holiday a year and perks like a 15% employer contribution pension.

The chosen candidate will also get free admission to all royal palaces and 20% off in Royal Collection Trust Shops.

The job advert reads: “It’s developing your skills whilst pushing our systems forward.

“And it’s being a part of the professional business behind the Monarchy.

“Reporting to the Director of Digital Services, you’ll lead our Cyber Security function to maintain and enhance the information security posture of this complex and unique organisation.

“This will include, leading the maturity of the Cyber Risk Management strategy and the Cyber security framework delivery in line with best practice.

“Leading an in-house team to take action to reduce cyber risk and build resilience against cyber-attacks.

“Working with the Enterprise Architecture team to mature a secure by-design culture.

“Evaluating, reviewing, and advising on best practice, drawing on external expertise, including the National Cyber Security Centre.

“As subject matter expert, building understanding and upskill the wider Digital Services Team and other key stakeholders.

“Encouraging a cybersecurity culture and awareness so that all employees understand the role they play.

“Working closely with information security colleagues to support compliance.”

Applicants will be expected to have: “Significant experience in a cyber security role, with an understanding of information security frameworks and a proven ability to lead a cyber function and execute an enterprise-level security strategy, preferably within His Majesty’s Government.

“With strong technical understanding you can take ownership, drive change, and challenge from a cyber perspective.

“Proactive and well networked, you’ll be up-to-date with global cyber threats and solutions.

“An experienced people manager, strong interpersonal and communication skills that can easily develop trusting and influential relationships.

“The ability to work proactively with digital innovators, identifying how a business solution may be implemented with an appropriate level of risk.

“Excellent planning skills and the ability to effectively organise a varied and reactive workload while remaining resilient, agile, and driven.

“Calm under pressure, able to resolve a variety of situations including technical issues as they arise.

“Able to review complex information systems and web applications, identify risks and recommend appropriate, pragmatic (and cost-effective) solutions to mitigate those risks, as well as provide clear and concise advice to senior management.”

Applications close on 4 February.
