Do you fancy yourself a bit of a comedian? And do you love the smell of a full English? This could be the job for you.

The AC Hotel Glasgow is hiring a Breakfast Jester to entertain hotel guests in the morning during the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The paid gig, which would suit someone performing at Fringe, includes free accommodation and travel expenses to and from Scotland’s capital for the festival, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Bosses at the hotel said the business has been experiencing a “significant spike in demand” during the festival, amid reports that performers and visitors are being priced out of staying in Edinburgh throughout the run.

Earlier in the year, Manchester-based comedian Jason Manford wrote on X about being priced out of the popular festival.

He said: “Edinburgh Festival prices especially for accommodation are an absolute joke!

“No idea how anyone starting out is managing to get up there and showcase their talents!

“I’ve just priced up a week up there and even if every show sells out, I’m still operating at a loss.”

The job ad states that the selected applicant will be the “toast of the hotel, transforming ordinary mornings into laugh-a-minute experiences and setting the perfect tone for the day ahead”.

“Are you a laugh-a-minute lady? A witty wise guy? A rib-tickling rebel? A banter merchant? A comedian, in other words? Then your dream role may be just a scroll away,” the advert adds.

“You’ll bring thigh-slappers, side-splitters, zingers, oneliners, and tableside crowd-work to our wonderful guests during breakfast twice a week for the duration of your run.”

The opportunity is open to everyone performing at Fringe, which is running from 2 to 26 August – as well as up-and-coming comics.

But it doesn’t sound like everyone is a fan.

C commented: “There is not enough coffee in the mornings to be entertained by a jester or anyone for that matter.”

“I can’t think of a worse way to spend my breakfast,” added Sarah.

“I never laugh before midday and I wouldn’t welcome anyone who tried to change that,” added another user.

Others, however, were tickled by the job ad.

Shannon said: “Omg I used to live across from there! That’s where I would recommend my visitors stay lmao. Missed opportunity to be the local breakfast jester.”

“Should have no problem filling the job. Everyone thinks they’re a comedian in Glasgow,” added another user.

To apply for the role, comedians are encouraged to send a 60-second video explaining what they’re willing to bring to the table – along with their best breakfast joke.

The role is set to start in August and pay will be agreed with whoever is successful.
