Asda is launching a new type of convenience store designed to bring its own-label products and value prices to more local communities.
The supermarket will initially trial three Asda Convenience stores in Glasgow through a partnership with independent retailer One-O-One.
Each shop will stock around 3,500 products, including fresh and chilled groceries, food-to-go ranges and Asda-branded goods.

The retailer plans to use the first three stores to test the format before potentially expanding it more widely across the UK, as reported by What’s The Jam.
Asda said it intends to scale the model quickly if the initial trial proves successful.
The launch is supported by a £1 million investment and marks Asda’s move into supplying independently operated convenience stores.
Unlike the company’s existing Asda Express branches, the new shops will not be wholly owned by the supermarket.
Instead, established independent retailers will be able to operate stores under the Asda Convenience name while accessing its products, prices and supply network.

Asda said the model would combine its value-led range with the local knowledge of independent shop operators.

One-O-One has an established network of convenience stores across Scotland’s Central Belt and has been selected as Asda’s first partner for the format.

Asda said customers could expect the stores to offer the value, products and service associated with its wider supermarket estate.
The company will assess the performance of the three Glasgow shops before deciding how widely to introduce the new format.
