A shocked explorer has found a movie theatre filled with cats believed to have been abandoned by their owners.
Emma Combs stumbled upon the unusual venue while travelling.
At first glance, this looked just like any other cinema with posters for the latest blockbusters such as ‘Freakier Friday’, ‘F1’ and ‘Superman’.

But the 27-year-old was soon greeted by dozens of friendly felines as nearly 60 cats reside at the movie threatre.
Rather than let the animals fend for themselves, the owners of Highland Cinema took them in.
Emma also shared a video of her find to TikTok, where it has over one million views so far.
“It felt like a time capsule!” the travel content creator, told What’s The Jam.

“It’s a movie museum and cat sanctuary and proper cinema.

“You can find movie projectors from the 30s and film memorabilia.
“Outside, the cinema is lined with huge cages filled with rescued cats.
“There is even a movie about the man who owns the cinema.

“I believe it’s called ‘Movie Man’.”

Emma, who is currently a travelling nomad, added: “It’s clear that Highland Cinema started as a passion project and it’s really cool to see how many people love it.
“I’m glad it’s getting the attention it deserves.
“We only went through the museum so it would be fun to actually watch a movie there.
“It’s a fun [place] to go see – whether you’re a movie buff or just really like cats.”
A statement on Highland Cinema’s website also tells more about the situation with the cats.
It reads: “Highlands Cinemas cares for 58 abandoned domestic and feral cats.
“The problem is caused by uncaring, irresponsible owners who simply dump their pets like garbage.
“Since there is a total lack of concern or intervention by local municipalities, and animal welfare groups who rely exclusively on donations are swamped, we have done what we can to help in this area.
“We will not take in any more animals.
“It costs a lot of money to provide food, lodging, medicine and veterinary care for the cats we have.
“For anyone who may feel the urge to help, two boxes have been installed in the lobby of the theatre, to accept donations to assist with their care.
“The cat population has been growing and we are now at capacity.
“People ask how they can help, money is great and goes to the vet bills.
“The cats are used to Purina dry and wet foods, also consume urinary so food, and love their temptations.
“Old towels, cushions and blankets are good.”
Emma visited the theatre, in Kinmount, Canada, on 5 August 2025.
