Taunton Town FC’s midfielder Tom Smith sports the distinctive barnet.

They wear flowing ginger wigs to watch the Southern League Premier Division South club – nicknamed The Peacocks – this season.
But his impact has led to a booming business in wigs, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Richard Smith who runs the club shop said: “There’s a new craze going on regarding our captain Tom Smith.
“He has quite a ginger mullet.
“He’s hit the ground running in the team scoring a bag full of goals.

“The fans have really taken to him.
“The craze was started by one particular fan and grew from there.
“We had a chat with Tom and asked if he’d mind us stocking some of the wigs in the club shop and he was up for it – he was all over it.

“We’ve been selling between 10 and 15 every home game.
“His hair cut is a banger.
“He’d probably fit in very well playing Aussie rules football.
“The fans love him and I think it’s fair to say he loves us too.”
And Richard said there was no sign of the wig boom ending.
“I can’t get them in quick enough,” he added.

“We are literally buying them and then selling them.
“The club isn’t making anything – we’re selling them for what we pay for them.
“We’re doing it to bring the fans along for the ride and they seem to be embracing it.
“It’s great.
“Personally I would love to have that amount of hair again – but I don’t – so lucky him.
“All we need now is a chant to go with the wigs – but I’ll leave that to the fans.”
