A woman has shared how getting randomly tagged in a Facebook post led to her meeting her future husband.
When Katya Varbanova received a polite hello from Jamie online, she didn’t think it would go beyond a few messages.
They’d both been tagged in a post by a friend and started chatting soon after.
At the time, Katya was single and travelling around Australia – and Jamie, an entrepreneur, lived in Canada.
But they fell hard and fast.
Just 24 days after his first DM, Jamie booked a flight to go to Down Under, but due to family bereavement, was sadly unable to travel.
So Katya travelled the 9,000-mile journey to see him instead.
“Sometimes you have to take crazy risks and break some rules,” she told What’s The Jam.

“[When Jamie had to cancel the trip] he was so heartbroken and I remember him saying ‘I wish you could be here now’.
“So, I jokingly threw the idea of me flying to Canada.
“And he said ‘You would fly to Canada for me? I can’t believe you would actually do that for me. I would love that so much’.
“I didn’t tell anyone apart from the friend I was staying with in Australia.
“I wanted to spare myself the embarrassment in case it ended up being a total disaster.
“[But], meeting for the first time was epic.
“Even better than we imagined.
“We didn’t do anything interesting that first day, we just drove to the Airbnb and just spent the night together.”
The next day, the pair made things official as Jamie asked Katya to be his girlfriend and another few days later, introduced her to his family.
She said: “Our relationship was effortless on all levels.
“We just fit very well together.
“I am this super bubbly, loud, creative, opinionated short lady and he’s this smart, calm, biohacker, science-loving tall dude.”
Ditching traditional dating rules, the couple worked on their long-distance relationship and in January 2022 – three years after they met – Jamie proposed.
She said: “We broke pretty much every single rule dating coaches teach.
“We texted all day long.
“Neither of us was playing hard to get or holding back on compliments.
“Screw the dating rules, especially when things flow.
Katya said: “I was shocked [when he proposed]!
“[It was] a usual Friday afternoon at home, both of us wearing comfy clothes.
“And the day after, on the day of our anniversary, Jamie had this massive bouquet of roses delivered for our third anniversary, it was the best thing ever.
“Both my parents and his parents were absolutely delighted.
The couple, who currently live in Malta, plan to marry later this year.
Katya, who runs her own marketing business: Katya.com added: “We’re planning our wedding later in 2024!
“No kids yet, we’re still focused on our careers, enjoying travelling together and being free.”
