A single woman has revealed she’s become a real-life 27 Dresses after being a bridesmaid nine times but never the bride.
Kayleigh Young first did it for a family friend when she was just five years old.
Since then, the 34-year-old has supported her mum on her big day and seven friends for their nuptials.

She says she’s often compared to Katherine Heigl’s character Jane from the 2008 film 27 Dresses, who is asked to be a bridesmaid 27 times.
“I love being a bridesmaid and I love weddings,” Kayleigh, from Blyth, Northumberland, told What’s The Jam.

“Everyone refers to me as the real-life character from 27 Dresses.
“It’s an honour to be asked and know that people think highly of you.
“I’ve been a bridesmaid every year for the past nine years, apart from the two Covid years.

“I have a lot of different friendship groups, and I think people ask me because we’re close and they know that I’ll throw a good hen do.
“I’m a ride or die friend who is always there for people and they know I have a lot of experience to help with planning.”
The nurse estimates she’s forked out £5,000 on hen dos, shoes, hairdressers and make-up artists over the years.

Kayleigh said: “Luckily, all the dresses were bought by the brides or I wouldn’t be able to afford them.
“I’ve been to two weddings abroad and they probably cost around £500 to £800.
“Last year, I went to two weddings where I wasn’t a bridesmaid, and it was nice to be a guest for a change.
“This year, I haven’t been a bridesmaid, and it’s nice to have a break.”
Kayleigh has never taken a plus one to her friend’s weddings where she’s been a bridesmaid.
She said: “People always joke that I’m ‘always the bridesmaid and never the bride’.
“I’ve never taken a date to a wedding.
“I still have a few single friends, so I may be a bridesmaid a few more times, and hopefully next time I’ll have a date.”
Kayleigh holds out hope that she’ll be the bride one day, with her friends supporting her.

She added: “I would like to get married one day, but who knows what the future holds.
“It would have to be someone who added value to my life.
“After being a bridesmaid so many times, it would be nice to be the bride, but I’m not a big fan of being the centre of attention.
“Maybe I’ll elope.
“I’d love to have all the people I’ve been a bridesmaid for as my bridesmaids.
“It would all depend on how big the wedding was and if I was to elope or not.”
