An urban explorer was left saddened after visiting a Grade II-listed Welsh hotel where John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed as newlyweds.

Sean Piper visited the “beautiful” Corbett Arms a few weeks ago.

The venue, in Tywyn, Gwynedd, played host to the Beatles singer and his wife in 1969.

This was during a turbulent time in the band’s history – just months before they split in April 1970.

Unfortunately, the 19th century venue closed in 2011 due to “severe disrepair” and is due to be knocked down, with scaffolding put up to protect the public as the building crumbles.

“The hotel looked clean and grand when we walked in,”Sean, from Kent, told What’s The Jam.

“But we soon discovered there was a lot of decay and pigeons had started living in the ceilings.

“It’s sad that such a beautiful building has gone to ruin.”

Images show the hotel in a state of neglect with collapsed ceilings and damaged furniture.

Old bedding, chairs and mirrors have been left behind and there is also an old bar with broken beer taps.

Sean added: “The most interesting thing was the contrast of the bedroom.

“In one photo, you’ll see a spotless four-poster bed in a clean room with carpet.

“The next room is three beds smothered in bird mess, with a dirty decaying floor.

“I’d love to go back and document the decay even further but would need to take precautions such as a mask for the heavy mould on site.

“Notably, John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed there in 1969.”

Sean shared a post of the find with his fans online (@‌seanurbex).

“Once a seaside sanctuary for stars, now a crumbling ghost on the Welsh coast,” he captioned his post.

‘Tucked along the seaside in West Wales, the hotel once echoed with laughter and music, not to mention the footsteps of the famous including John Lennon.

“Built in 1833, this hotel was abandoned in 2011.”

One person said: “Wow!”

Kerzy added: “LOVE this.”

Someone else said: “Wow amazing!”

Rob added: “I would love to see this!!!”

Another explorer, called Archie, said: “I have indeed passed by a few times – looks incredible – very well captured.”
