A pet cat went missing on an island then turned up 400 miles away on the mainland.

The white and grey puss – called Dusty – stowed away in a van.

This was unbeknown to the driver and her owner.

The three-year-old moggy then took a journey by sea and land before being spotted.

Her owner Liz Skillicorn was stunned when she was contacted after putting out a social media appeal.

Dusty had gone from the Isle of Man, across the Irish Sea to Tavistock, Devon.

She couldn’t believe the distance covered by her pet and will be picking her up next week.

Liz discovered Dusty had hopped into the van at the TT races festival and left the island by boat last Friday (13 Jun).

She said the driver told her he had to leave the cat with a vet before she was transferred to a cattery as he had to go back on the road.

“This is definitely the furthest Dusty’s gone,” Liz, of Cronk Grianagh, told What’s The Jam.

“She went on a boat and then down to Devon.

“We’ve had so many offers in helping collect Dusty and we appreciate every single one of them.

“The gent who had her has had to go off to Glastonbury in his van for work for a month.

“He hasn’t got any family who could look after her so he took her to the vets.

“They have since contacted me via the microchip and have helped arrange for Dusty to go to a cattery for a week.

“This just means that Dusty is extending her holiday until we go over next weekend.

“The main thing is she’s healthy, happy and most importantly safe.

“We all can’t wait to give her a big squeeze.”

She added Dusty was now set to be grounded for life after she’s collected.

An online fundraiser set up to pay for the travel costs received more than £1,000 in donations.

An amazed Liz said: “We thought we were just going to have to work out a way to pay for the trip but it was amazing to see how much has been raised.

“We couldn’t believe how people have come together to help us.”

After the pet is collected, any money raised over the target of £750 will be donated to an animal charity, the family said.
