A pensioner pooch is struggling to find a new owner because of his old fogey ailments.

The Jack Russell – called Milo – is 14-years-old.

The lifespan of the breed is only 13 to 16-years – meaning he may not have many months left.

But it’s hoped he can see out his twilight years in a new home after being in a dog shelter for seven months.

But prospective owners are put off because Milo – who is 67-years-old in human years – needs up to £50 worth of medicines a month.

The tricolour OAP dog is being looked after at the RSPCA’s centre in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

A spokesperson for the animal charity said: “We are appealing for a special home for an elderly dog before his time runs out.

Jack Russell terrier Milo is 14 years old – and has been at the charity’s Burton-on-Trent branch for seven months.

“Staff are concerned that his age and cost of medication is putting off potential adopters, but they are keen that he goes to a new home to live out his twilight years.

“Due to his age, Milo does have health conditions that require medication, which will cost around £40-£50 a month.

“Milo is a lovely old chap who deserves a loving home and would love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire or on a cosy chair.”

Lesley Darling, centre manager, said: “Milo is such a lovely dog and he would make a great pet for a family who can give him somewhere peaceful and quiet.

“We will never give up on a dog, no matter how old they are.

“Milo is in his senior years but he is far from ready to retire yet. All he wants is a cosy, quiet home with a family who will dote on him.”

Lesley added: “We wonder if this is putting people off but we know that there is the right family out there who will be accepting of the additional costs.”

Milo would be best in a home with no other animals, but could possibly live with older children.

“He is a lovely old chap who deserves a loving home and would love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire,” Lesley said.

“He loves human company so someone who is at home a lot would be ideal.”
