A missing casanova parrot was found after four days…when he flirted with a woman who walked under the tree he was hiding in.

Leigh Chittenden was distraught when his pet bird – called Joey – flew off from his home.

The 55-year-old thought he’d never see the Yellow Crowned Amazon Parrot again.

Joey vanished last Monday (26 Feb) and Leigh feared the worst due to the chilly temperatures and strong winds.

But when local Tracey Driver walked past a tree near his home in Old School Gardens, Margate, Kent, the ladies man parrot couldn’t resist.

He squawked: “Oi, hello there lovely” at her.

She then asked if anyone locally was missing a parrot and chuffed Leigh went down and was reunited with Joey on Friday (1 Mar).

He flew into his arms and gave him a kiss before saying: “Awww, hello dad, love you.”

Leigh told What’s The Jam.: “He’s my best friend, we’re very close.

“I’ve had a tough time recently and Joey has kept me company.

“We talk to each other all the time and watch TV together.

“He particularly enjoys wildlife programmes, especially if they feature parrots.

“He’ll jump up and down and talk to them.”

Leigh said Joey has a vocabulary of over 300 words and is learning more by the day.

Yellow crowned Amazon parrots are native to South America and the Caribbean and used to warmer climates.

“Even as pets they are not used to those extreme weather conditions so he’s lucky to be alive,” added Leigh.

“I would have been as sick as the proverbial parrot if I’d lost him.”
