A woman has revealed how she’s made thousands of pounds from her side hustle as a nano-influencer – all while holding down a full-time job.

Emily Jane, from Manchester, only started posting online by accident after sharing a clip about how she landed a marketing job with no experience.

But after the video went viral, the 26-year-old saw her life changed overnight.

The post struck a chord with viewers and brands began to take notice – with the offers soon rolling in.

A nano-influencer is someone with a small but impactful following on social media, typically between 1,000 and 10,000 followers.

Emily has just slightly more, at 12,500 on TikTok – but still earns a nice sum every month.

“My nano-influencer journey was totally organic,” she told What’s The Jam.

“I made a video about my journey into working in marketing – how I got into it with no experience – and it blew up.

“I loved that I created a community based on honest advice and helping people out.

“With a strong female-based community behind me, brands began reaching out.

“From gifted collabs to paid ones, I realised that I could start a real side hustle by creating content – something I loved to do anyway – and it went from there.

“Now, I’ve worked with so many of my dream brands across beauty, fashion, fitness, lifestyle and food and I feel so lucky.”

Nano influencers are often seen as regular people and their theme is focused on a specific niche market.

Emily’s best month so far was in July, when she brought in over £1,000.

Though on average, she makes around £200 a month from brand deals and ongoing partnerships that she has built over time.

She said: “My paid collaborations have massively helped me save for my future, as they provide a nice bit of extra income each month.

“I won’t give specifics on earnings, but let’s just say – many brands do pay very well.

“It’s no secret that the market is pretty saturated right now when it comes to influencers, but if you are truly yourself and focus on your niche, it’s possible to establish yourself and get a clear identity that shines through in your content.”

Emily’s platform has grown from sharing career tips to covering everything from workouts to skincare and everyday life.

The Mancunian, who is managed by the influencer agency SHOUT, added: “My advice is be yourself, be unique and be creative.

“Don’t forget that it’s all about quality over quantity.

“There’s lots of chatter within the industry that to be successful you need to post three times a day but that isn’t the case.

“Don’t be scared to jump on trends but don’t focus on that.

“Find what you’re passionate about, what you enjoy creating content around and go from there.

“Don’t burn yourself out at the very start.

“Be patient – it’s hard to go viral overnight – and don’t forget to have fun.”
