A savvy NHS worker has pocketed £15,000 towards her dream home thanks to a clever money-saving hack anyone can try.

Like many young people facing sky-high rents and soaring house prices, Shaynah Mills thought getting on the property ladder would take years.

But after tightening her belt and getting creative with her spending, the 26-year-old managed to save a small fortune – without giving up the things she enjoys.

Shaynah, who works as a mental health healthcare assistant, still lives at home with her family and earns around £400 to £500 a week.

With bills climbing and everyday costs mounting, she knew she had to be smart if she ever wanted a place of her own – so she came up with a plan.

Instead of letting small savings slip by, she began tracking every pound and setting aside whatever she could – whether it was spare change from her food shop or money saved on treats and gifts.

Over time, those little wins began to stack up.

What started as a few pounds here and there has now turned into a tidy £15,000 pot towards her first home.

But she says her main secret weapon to stretching her cash is searching for discount codes and online deals.

Revealing her money-saving hack, Shaynah says that almost £2,000 of her overall deposit comes from being savvy with vouchers.

“In my household, every penny counts,” she told What’s The Jam.

“My mum is the main earner, but I’ve had to be smart with my spending and clever with how I save.”

Shaynah, from Wolverhampton, regularly hunts for discounts before she buys anything online – from everyday essentials to birthday presents – and says the savings really do add up.

She often checks sites like VoucherCodes.co.uk to find hidden discounts that help her keep her spending in check, moving whatever she saves straight into her house fund.

And she’s not the only one cashing in.

New research shows that a growing number of young Brits now search for discount codes before making a purchase, with many seeing it as a sign of being financially savvy.

Shaynah said: “I use vouchers to knock pounds off the weekly shop, find hidden discounts for birthdays and gifts and to generally save money on my everyday spending.

“The money I save goes towards my house deposit, without sacrificing the things I enjoy.”
