A content creator has eaten at Wetherspoons for an entire week and says there’s one thing that shocked him the most.

Sam Wilder is well-known for his food challenges, including eating one type of food for seven days straight, with no break.

While he’s experimented with various fast food chains, he hasn’t yet tackled the British staple that is Wetherspoons.

The 34-year-old put it upon himself to try a variety of items on the budget pub’s menu across the course of a week – and found one thing that shocked him the most: the price.

In a clip, which has racked up 100,000 views, he shares his experience.

“It’s 100% great for people that are on a budget,” Sam, from the UK, told What’s The Jam.

“Somewhere like Spoons, you know what you’re getting, and you can’t really argue with the price.

“The quality is definitely varied among the dishes they serve.

“But if you’re looking to eat out cheap and cheerfully, then it’s a good place to go.”

In the clip, Sam begins with breakfast, of which he notes the extensive options are “overwhelming”.

His first meal is fresh fruit, accompanied by some pancakes with maple syrup and bacon.

He said: “The pancakes were like every pancake I’ve eaten recently; from a packet.

“And the maple syrup it came with tasted oddly fruity.

“But I quite liked the fresh fruit.

“[It] was genuinely delightful.”

Sam counts the number of options on the menu and totals a whopping 149.

Next up is lunch, and he chooses to make the most of the pub’s Monday club deal, which includes three small plates for £10.

He ordered nachos, halloumi fries and southern fried chicken strips.

Sam said, “All of the food wasn’t too bad, but I couldn’t help but think this might be meant for more than one person.”

One thing that shocked him was how full he was already feeling; something which usually doesn’t happen to him until day four or five of these challenges.

He persevered and got the ramen noodle bowl for dinner.

And while it was a hit, it was lacking some salt.

His daily total? £29.70.

On day two, he got a breakfast muffin, followed by their breakfast wrap.

Both went down a “treat”.

For dinner, he took up their Tuesday club offer and got a gourmet burger and a beer.

He said, “It looked a little sad.

“The chips weren’t amazing [and] the burger itself, the beef, was a little basic.

“But with the cheese, tomato and lettuce, it’s alright.

“I’ve definitely had better.”

Sam, although not overly impressed with the food, was amazed by the quick service.

He says the burger came out within five minutes of ordering, and he was done within 20 minutes.

The next day consisted of yoghurt with fresh fruit, followed by a barbecue chicken pizza that was “soggy”.

But his dinner, the pasta Alfredo with bacon, was top-notch.

Sam said, “It was the prettiest looking meal I’d had so far.

“[It] looked absolutely delightful.

“Zero complaints.

“The best thing I’ve had.

“The sauce was really tasty, I like how the bacon is cooked and mixed with it.

“The bacon is slightly crisp to give it some texture, and the rocket helps give it that pepperiness.

“It’s seasoned well.

“I was honestly happily surprised.”

He also opted for a dessert of a mini cookie dough sandwich with ice cream, which was another winner.

On day four, he chowed down on eggs Benedict, a chicken shawarma wrap and a tikka masala curry.

Even though the first two options left his tummy happy, the chicken in the curry tasted “odd” and overall, “like a ready meal”.

Day five brought chicken bites for breakfast, which he said tasted like Chinese takeaway chicken balls, and a festive pizza for lunch, which finally had a crispy base.

Cutting to dinner, he went for a classic – sausages and mash – which was a “mistake”.

He said: “It’s not good.

“Whoever cooked this definitely left it in the microwave a bit too long.

“It’s way too hot that it has any right to be.

“It’s a microwave job; it wasn’t properly cooked.”

To make up for the lack of flavour at dinner, he got a salted caramel blondie with ice cream, which “saved” the meal.

He opted for porridge with blueberries, banana and honey for breakfast on his penultimate day, with another breakfast muffin for lunch and his favourite, the pasta Alfredo, for dinner again.

On the final day, he re-heated a vegan sausage bap in the hopes they would taste better than the meaty ones – and, luckily, that was the case.

Albei, a bit dry.

He got roast turkey for lunch, which he compared to an “early 2000s school canteen Christmas dinner”.

Sam left with a final note: “I cannot wait to eat normal food again.

“I really can’t.”

And while he walked away pleasantly surprised, the one thing that shocked him most was his overall spend, totalling just £166.46 entirely.
