An influencer has discovered the ‘world’s most isolated holiday rental’ in the middle of the ocean.

Rubén Holgado, 23, uncovered the aquatic gem while on a trip to Florida.

He was even warned about the neighbourhood sharks that live in the watery area.

The Spanish content creator flew 10 hours to Miami from his home city Barcelona before then driving five hours to Key West.

The popular traveller, who has 376,000 TikTok followers, then took a boat to the floating hotel anchored in the open sea.

The houseboat is located less than an hour from Key West by boat.

In the viral video, viewed 3.6 million times on TikTok, Rubén called it “the most isolated hotel in the world”.

He added: “We are closer to Cuba than to Miami right now, literally in the middle of nowhere.”

Guests climb a small ladder to board the compact floating home, which also doubles as a boat with its own motor.

It sits anchored in the sea, offering ever-changing 360-degree views.

Inside, a large bed faces the ocean while a tiny bathroom comes with a generator and air-conditioning for comfort.

Rubén told What’s The Jam: “The hotel is called Tiki Suites and is located in Key West, Florida, the southernmost point of the continental United States.

“I arrived by boat, swimming there would have been completely unrealistic because I was travelling with camera equipment, luggage and fishing gear.

“Before leaving me there, the captain warned me not to venture too far from the hotel because the sea conditions were rough, there was a lot of wind and it would not have been the first time someone needed rescuing.

“He also warned me about the sharks!

“Key West is known for having a large shark population, which definitely added to the feeling of adventure.”

Although pricey – “it costs a kidney,” he jokes – the off-grid adventure delivers total seclusion with modern perks.

The rental moves slightly depending on the breeze, giving fresh perspectives throughout a stay.

Rubén said: “The hotel itself is surprisingly luxurious considering its location.

“It has air conditioning, comfortable facilities and even a TV with a copy of Titanic on DVD ready to watch, which I found quite funny given that you’re surrounded by open water.

“Throughout the day, you can see boats passing in the distance as well as pelicans and other seabirds.

“One thing that surprised me is that, because the hotel is legally classified as a vessel, guests need to complete some paperwork before staying there.

“I even had to obtain a boating licence beforehand and sign documents acknowledging the risks associated with staying in such a remote location.

“Daily life there is very different from a normal hotel experience, you need to arrive with your own food and supplies.

“During the day I spent time fishing, swimming and exploring the area.

“I even went swimming at night with a flashlight to confront my thalassophobia – fear of deep, dark water – and see if I could spot any sharks.

“The most beautiful part of the experience was the sunset, one of the most spectacular I have ever seen.

“However, that night a tropical storm rolled in and for a while I started questioning whether staying alone in the middle of the ocean was such a good idea!

“Fortunately nothing happened, but in case of an extreme emergency I had walkie-talkies that could be used to call for help.

“The experience felt peaceful, adventurous and slightly intimidating all at the same time.”

He added: “I would absolutely recommend it to travellers looking for a unique experience.

“However, it is probably best suited to adventurous people who enjoy unusual destinations and being away from civilisation for a while.”

For those craving a unique escape, this ocean-bound hideaway is perfect for intrepid couples or solo explorers ready to trade solid ground for waves.
