Fish and chips is nothing short of a British classic.
But Gordon Ramsay’s attempt to introduce it to the American market has left an unpleasant taste in some people’s mouths.
The Hell’s Kitchen star, 58, has been slammed in several reviews of his Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips branches.

Multiple diners have complained of issues including overly greasy food and interiors and a general lack of cleanliness, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The New York branch of the celebrity chef’s restaurant has actually proven so unpopular that it has been rated ‘terrible’ by over 20 percent of its TripAdvisor reviewers.

One reviewer of the Las Vegas branch described the food on offer as “not even a beggar’s fish and chips” and claimed that the fish was ground up before being shaped into the pieces sold.
They said that after visiting, Ramsay was “not worthy of his reputation”.

Another reviewer of the New York branch referenced Ramsay’s famously fiery temper in their review and said that he would undoubtedly descend into a fit of rage if he saw the state of his own restaurant.

They wrote: “I found the place dirty, the fish and chips greasy and the staff rude – if [Ramsay] had been there, he’d have gone nuts.”
The cleanliness of the eatery was also called into question by a diner at the New York branch who said that they were greeted by a “cloud of grease”.
Ramsay’s fish and chips restaurants can be found in several US locations and feature a simple menu served up in Union Jack-styled boxes.

This includes ‘combos’ featuring dishes such as the crispy cod, chicken and shrimp, all served with chips and priced between $15.99 and $19.99.
“Dirty chips”, or fries as they are better known stateside, can also be bought at the restaurant with additions including bacon, cheese and sour cream – all priced at $9.99 each.
On his website, Chef Ramsay speaks about his love of the classic dish: “Fish & Chips is a really important dish to me, not only is it quintessentially British, but it was part of my upbringing.

“I’ve found a way to elevate that classic dish, dress it up and really modernise the experience.
“I’ve had three stars in Chelsea for over two decades, two stars in France, restaurants around the globe – but my mum is most proud of the chippy.”
The venue has a 3.5 rating out of 5 but it is worth noting that while one fifth of visitors ranked it ‘terrible’, a third of those visiting ranked it excellent.
