Pigeon builds nest in woman’s makeup bag and lays two eggs while she’s away

A woman returned home to discover an unexpected guest had moved into her bathroom and built a nest inside her makeup bag.

Mimmy Stranger found twigs, leaves, and a pigeon perched on a shelf after returning from visiting her mum.

The feathered squatter had even laid two eggs and appeared to have made itself completely at home.

The 30-year-old has since named the birds Pidgey and her mate Keith, while the eggs have been christened Cluck and Norris.

Stranger, from Bedford, says she has no plans to evict her unusual lodger and joked that she hopes to become a grandma to twins, as reported by Whats The Jam.

She said: “I’d been away spending some nice time with my mum and came back and noticed there was stuff all over the floor.

“So I looked ahead of me in my bathroom and there was a pigeon in a nest in my makeup bag on my shelf in the bathroom that had laid two eggs.

“I forgot to close my bathroom window.

“I must say it’s a first for me.

“The amount of interest is amazing; she’s just so lovely.

“I know a lot of people would be getting rid but she felt safe here which is so nice.

“I love all animals so I want to make sure they have a chance.

“She’s very happy where she is.

“It’s a bit of a difficult situation because I know that I don’t want to disturb the nest.

“I want her to be able to do what she needs to do as a mum but I’ve become grandma to twins.”

Despite the nest being built in an inconvenient spot, Mimmy is happy to let the pigeon family stay until the chicks hatch.

She said: “I’m going to wait till they’re born and then go from there.

“The mum is so happy there.

“I can walk in without her moving, she is in full mum mode.

“We’ve got like an unspoken agreement, me and Pidgey – so she’s all right where she is.”

According to the RSPB, it is illegal to remove an active bird’s nest.

The wildlife charity says: “Instead, you must allow the chicks to leave the nest before taking any action to remove a nest or block an entrance to it.”
