He popped the question to Trinity Brooks at La Piazza Italian Restaurant in Tulare, located north of Los Angeles in California, US.

While enjoying a romantic meal together, he lifted himself out of his wheelchair and dropped to the floor before shifting his body onto one knee.
He explained: “I asked the table behind us to record when she came back from running to the car.”
Trinity appeared baffled by what he was doing on the floor before the penny eventually dropped.
She fought back the tears as she realised the big question was about to come.

With a smile on her face, she got to her feet and stood in front of Michael to await his proposal.
He proffered the ring and she dropped to her knees to kiss him and accept.
He then put the ring on her finger and the couple shared a tender embrace as onlookers cheered.

Michael said: “Luckily, she said ‘yes’.
“We’re really excited.”
One fan said: “I’m bawling. My boyfriend has two perfectly good legs and he didn’t get down on one knee.”

Susana added: “The fact that he can’t walk and still made the effort to get on his knee and asked her to marry him speaks volumes about him!”
Jessie remarked: “The way she let him do everything himself knowing how important his independence is to him just makes this even better.

“Truly perfect for each other.”
Talking about his accident, he added: “I was making a pass for third place on the second lap.
“And I guess I scrubbed, which means you take the bars and you scrub really hard to stay lower, staying lower off a jump is faster rather than shooting really high.
“After my foot bay caught the top, it sent me into a flip.
“My bike landed on top of me and crushed my spine.
He suffered a broken neck and collapsed lung and was put into an induced coma.
The accident left him paralysed from the chest down.
Two years after the accident, he built himself a new bike and became an adapted athlete, as reported by What’s The Jam.
